In the recent local elections Labour took a beating.The electorate told the Government to pull up its socks and put it on notice of a general election defeat if it failed to do so.

Labour will listen, learn from its mistakes and respond by rising to the challenge. The first and immediate thing to do is to make sure that we come out of this economic difficulty.

The second is to see the world through the eyes of voters.
